Eight days and a full loop of Issyk-Kul: the Cholpon-Ata resort on the north shore, Grigoriev Gorge, Karakol, the red rocks of Jeti-Oguz and the Skazka canyon on the south shore.
The pace is easy: one main excursion a day, with time left for the lakeshore. Groups of 10–18 with a guide speaking Uzbek and Russian. Mountain weather changes quickly, so pack a warm layer.
Day-by-day itinerary
Flight to Bishkek, airport meet-and-greet and hotel transfer. An evening stroll around Ala-Too Square and Oak Park.
En route: the 11th-century Burana Tower and its open-air museum of stone figures. Through Boom Gorge to the north shore and check-in at the lakeside resort.
The open-air petroglyph museum in the morning. Afternoon on the beach, or an optional boat trip.
A day in the spruce-lined Chon-Ak-Suu gorge: a mountain river, yurts and an optional lunch of local dishes.
On to the lake's eastern end. The wooden Dungan Mosque built without nails, Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Przhevalsky Museum.
The red 'Seven Bulls' and 'Broken Heart' rocks, then an afternoon soak in the Ak-Suu hot mineral springs.
The multicoloured clay formations of Skazka canyon and stops along the south shore. Back to Bishkek by evening.
A free morning for souvenirs at Osh Bazaar, then the airport transfer and flight to Tashkent.
